HUILUPISTE X LUMI

We are proud to present our HUILUPISTE X LUMI 'Huugo' Flute Bag.

In collaboration with Finnish design brand LUMI, our premium leather flute bag entitled 'Huugo' brings together Nordic minimalism and bespoke quality. Designed in Helsinki and made to last a lifetime.

2026 marks the 10 year anniversary for Huilupiste. This collaboration looks at celebrating the past, present and future. Founder and owner Johannes remembers his grandfather Huugo crafting in the traditional method of weaving birch bark together, creating many different kinds of objects. Birch trees, the most common deciduous trees in Finland, are a significant part of the country’s nature and culture. LUMI had taken inspiration from the same crafting tradition with their line entitled 'pärekori'. Together we created this design in two colours, black and cognac. Our aim was to create a product which will last a lifetime into the future, an apt home for our precious instrument.

The materials consist of a vegetable tanned leather with cotton twill lining. The bag comes with a protective cotton dust bag. It fits many sized flute cases from the traditional C or B foot case to the BAM Hightech flute case. The piolino mechanism offers the possibility of tightening the cases depending on the size of the inner case. The bag measures 50cm in length and 16cm high. LUMI (meaning snow in Finnish) began in New York City in 2000, a collaboration between Sanna Kantola, then a handbag designer for Ralph Lauren, and Bruno Beaugrand, then an art director at Tiffany Watches.

During a Millenium winter holiday, the pair found themselves in a snowy little town in the middle of Finland, where they came across an old felt factory, which produced a white felt that was as pure and soft as the driven snow. The designers fell in love with the natural material and decided to design a small line of felt hats and handbags, trimmed in Vachetta leather.

This combination of natural felt and vegetable-tanned leather, hand-crafted in small factories in Finland, proved to be a hit, and was quickly picked up by discerning fashion shops from New York to Tokyo. A short three years later, with the introduction of their bestselling Supermarket Bag in 2003, LUMI extended its sales across most European countries, establishing a rapidly growing wholesale presence at premiere trade shows in Paris, Milan and New York.

In 2007, LUMI returned to its origins, to Helsinki, Finland, and opened its own LUMI retail stores, where customers can, for the first time, experience the full range of LUMI accessories inside a shop atmosphere that clearly reflects their uniquely Nordic origins.
