If the pads are at the end of their service life (4–10 years depending on the pads and the number of times they are played), a full service or overhaul is recommended for the instrument. In addition to the basic maintenance measures, a full service includes replacing all wearing parts (pads, felts, damping material and corks), leveling the tones holes if necessary, repairing the mechanism and restoring the instrument to a condition comparable to new in every respect. A full service can use original spare parts recommended by the manufacturer or modify the instrument according to the player's wishes. A full service includes a follow-up inspection and adjustment within 6 months of the completion of the service, if necessary.
The price of a full service for a handmade flute starts at €999 + supplies and additional work. The price is determined based on the time and supplies used for the service and is affected by the quality, age and previous service history of the flute. The typical cost of a full service is €1,000–1,900. Upon request, we will provide a more detailed cost estimate for the service once we have seen the flute.
For a full service, the flute must be at the workshop for approximately 7–10 business days.
You can book a maximum of one full service at a time. If you would like to book a full service for more than one handmade instrument, please make a reservation(s) for other available days or contact us.
Handmade flutes include Muramatsu, Sankyo, Miyazawa, Mateki, Brannen and Haynes Q flutes. If you are not sure whether your flute is handmade or a student instrument, please contact us.
